Olivier Perrin, Photographer in Lisbon
Having lived in Lisbon since 2004, photography has thus always been part of my daily life. I’m interested in people within their everyday surroundings, but also in the geometric space that surrounds them.
Every walk through the city is a discovery. I particularly love the changing light, so bright in winter under skies often full of clouds. The contrast between the white stone of the city, the calçada and the Tagus fascinates me just as much. Not to mention its viewpoints, its sloping streets, its staircases.
Geometry and composition have therefore always held a central place in my work. I’m not looking for emptiness, nor necessarily a human presence, but above all for an emotion, one I try to capture so I can share it. The landscape is sometimes enough on its own, after all; a human presence can, for instance, add another dimension, without always being necessary.
For the past three years, studio portraiture has thus become a real passion, and now makes up a large part of my work. I particularly love guiding each person step by step, in a calm atmosphere, to reveal something authentic.
